Interior trends for 2018: What’s set to be big this year

A new year brings a whole host of new interior trends to get on board with. In 2017, we loved copper, ‘millennial pink’ and all things velvet. So, what’s in store for 2018? Here’s our predictions for the year ahead…

Different shades of purple
A wide range of purple shades and tones are set to be big in 2018. In fact, Pantone’s Colour of the Year for 2018 is Ultra Violet, so we can expect violet, lilac and lavender to be very popular this year. If painting a wall purple in your home is a bit much for you, you can always try adding small features like pillows and throws to your humble abode, or light fixtures and accessories.

Peach and warmer tones
‘Millennial Pink’ may have been extremely popular in 2017, but this year we are expecting to see much more peach in home interiors, as well as tonal reds. Colours like peach and soft reds can make a home feel very warm and welcoming and look great in cushions and linen options.

Statement art
2018 is set to be the year that gallery walls head out of fashion and are to be replaced by big pieces of statement art instead. So, if you’re getting board of scattered art on your walls, now is the time to replace them with one big piece instead. Therefore, you’re still providing a focal point in a room and sprucing your walls up, without relying on a gallery wall.

Black and white
Black and white never really goes out of style, but it is predicted to be on-trend more than ever in 2018. The colour combination can make any room feel stylish, fresh and modern, so whether it is time to find a new sofa, have fun with home accessories or getting the paint brushes out, it could very much be worth experimenting with black and white.

All things green
Urban jungles have been huge in-home interiors for a good few years now, and thankfully, this trend is not going anywhere. Not only are plants affordable and a super easy way to bring a cool vibe to a home, they are great to have fun with as well as making the air much better in your home. In 2018, we can expect to see plant walls on the rise, so if you’re unsure of what to do with an empty wall in your home, you may like the look of a plant wall.

Sage, sage and more sage
Pinterest recently revealed that the grey-green colour Sage is set to be one of the most popular interior choices of 2018. The website revealed that the term ‘sage’ has got a 170% boost from those on the lookout for interior inspiration ahead of the new year. Sage works well on walls and can also blend well with a wide range of other colours. It is a great choice if you’re over the grey interior trend, but don’t want something too bright.

Statement ceilings and doors
Pinterest also revealed that we are set to go crazy for all things statement in 2018. Your ceiling no longer has to be plain and it’s not all about walls this year. Ceilings are set to be the fifth wall this year, and with a bold paint or statement wallpaper, they can really transform a room. Similarly, statement doors are also set to be bang on-trend in 2018, and are a great way to add some personality to the front of your home and a fun way to welcome guests.
