How to throw the best New Year’s Eve party ever
Can you believe it? Another year done and dusted and it’s almost time to celebrate New Year’s Eve once again. If you’re the host this year for your friends and family, why not try and make it the best one yet and throw a party that everyone will remember, for all the right reasons.
From food and drink to music options, here’s how you can throw the best New Year’s Eve party ever…
Transform your bottles
Bring a bit of glam to your NYE party and spruce up your champagne and prosecco bottles. All you need is a bottle, super adhesive spray, glitter and some latex gloves. Make sure you also have some old cloth to do all the messy work on.
Simply put your gloves on, apply the spray adhesive to each bottle and sprinkle craft glitter all over the bottle. Keep doing this until the bottle is completely covered before shaking any excess off and leaving to dry. Make sure you don’t spray the label or the top though, so that you can still pop the cork and know what it is you’re drinking!
Create a cool sign
One super cool thing to do is to create a 2018 sign in your home. You can either do this by using number balloons, create a garland with cut out numbers attached or use huge cardboard numbers and decorate them with tinsel, glitter or anything else sparkly and fun.
Fairy lights everywhere
Fairy lights can really help create a party atmosphere in a home. Turn the main lights down dim, and use fairy lights around your home to bring a fun vibe to the party. Whether you choose to hang them around door frames, put them in jars around your home or place them around mirrors, you really can’t go wrong with fairy lights.
Make your own photo booth
If you want to add a little something extra to your party, consider making your own photo booth. Create a background for the booth of paper streamers, tinsel and decorations and simply put your camera on a tripod and either ask a guest to take pictures, or encourage them to use the timer. Then you will always have great memories to look back on.
Food and Drink
Create a punch
Why not have some fun before the guests arrive and make a punch for everyone to enjoy. If kids are coming to the party, why not create two so everyone can be involved? For the adults, try a fruity Prosecco punch. All you have to do is add peach puree and keep topping it up throughout the night. Alternatively, mix Prosecco and Cognac together for a super sweet option. For the kids, try mixing fruit juices and fizzy Limeade or Cherryade together.
For a fun snack for your guests to enjoy, try making skewers before they arrive. You could even keep it festive and use bacon, sprouts, turkey and more. Alternatively, try combining steak and peppers, prawns and vegetables or cheese and tomatoes together for tasty skewers.
If you can’t enjoy champagne on NYE, then when can you?! All you need to do is bake enough cupcakes for all your guests in whatever flavour you’d like and add champagne along with all the other ingredients. If you want even more champagne in your cupcakes, add a spoon or two to your frosting mix.
And all the hand picky food…
Of course, you’re going to want to please all your guests at your party, so make sure you have a full spread ready to go for them to pick at during the night. Offer the classics like ham and cheese, pork pies and mini sausages, but also spruce it up a bit with stuffed peppers, camembert with dipping bread and salmon.
‘Moments’ of the year game
This is a really lovely game to play with your guests and a great way to reflect on the past year. Simply make cards with things like ‘Best moment of the year’, the ‘Hardest you laughed this year’, the ‘Day you wish you could live again’ and other positive cards that will bring the guests together and get everyone talking.
Guess each other’s NYE resolutions
Another easy game is for everyone to write down their New Year’s resolutions, fold it up and place it into a bowl. Each person then has to take out someone’s paper and guess whose resolutions they are. The person who guesses correctly the most, wins.
Two resolutions and a lie
Similarly, encourage your guests to write down two resolutions and a complete lie. Each person then reads out their resolutions and lie, and everyone has to guess what the lie is.
Don’t forget about the kids!
Make sure the kids have got plenty to be getting on with as well; from board games and karaoke to dance mats and more. If the kids are entertained and happy, the parents will be too.
Music can be a difficult one at parties, as people can have such different tastes. If you know your guest’s music tastes well, create a playlist full of songs that everyone would like to hear. From current chart music to party classics, mix it up so everyone can enjoy it. If you’re a bit stuck, start with these songs to get your inspiration flowing…

George Michael – Faith
Outkast – Hey Ya!
